Texas Reads One Book - The Lemonade War

Thank you for your interest in Texas Reads One Book! The past two years' events were so popular that we are bringing it back for 2017.  This fantastic statewide reading program will kick-off on April 3rd, and your school community is invited to join in!

What is Texas Reads One Book?

Texas Reads One Book is a very special family literacy event that will bring thousands of families from across the state together to share a children’s book, The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies.

How does it work?

Every child in every participating elementary school will receive a copy of the book and a reading schedule, and Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett will read the first chapter of the book via videocast at your school-wide assembly. Students can follow along and then continue reading the book, one chapter each night, with their families. It’s like a statewide book club that everyone can be a part of!

During the three week event schools will promote families reading together by enjoying fun activities, daily trivia questions, and discussions, all centered around the story. This comprehensive approach to reading brings the story to life in a unique way as children experience positive reinforcement for literacy at home, at school, and even in the community.
