July 27, 2020 - Advantage Academy Families,
My letter last week indicated that due to the most recent Dallas County Order, schools in Dallas County shall not start at-school or face-to-face instruction until on or after September 8th. However, schools are permitted to start sooner for at home/online learning.
Advantage Academy’s new start date for instruction is Monday, August 31, 2020. Please read below for information on how each campus will begin the new school year:
GP EAST, GP WEST AND NORTH DUNCANVILLE / SW DALLAS CAMPUSES
Our Grand Prairie East, Grand Prairie West, and North Duncanville/SW Dallas campuses will begin with all at-home/online learning for the week of August 31 through September 4. Beginning Tuesday, September 8, at school/face-to-face instruction will begin for those families who chose to have their students learn on campus (whether 100% at school or a hybrid model). Those who chose at home learning will continue to do so online.
WAXAHACHIE CAMPUS ONLY- Ellis County has not currently placed any restrictions concerning our current start date for at school/face-to-face learning. At our Waxahachie campus, at school/face-to-face instruction will begin on August 31st for those families who chose to have their students learn on campus (whether 100% at school or a combination/hybrid model). Those who chose at home learning will also begin online on August 31.
For all parents, please keep in mind that we continue to receive guidance from state and local officials. We will continue to keep you informed if any further changes or guidance is provided. Additionally, we are currently working to make revisions to the calendar to ensure that we have the required number of instructional minutes, as set by the Texas Education Agency.
Lastly, we are currently making plans to provide all students with the necessary tools and resources to ensure all students have access to online learning as needed throughout the school year. Resources such as ipads, chromebooks, or other will be available and vary by grade level. You will be receiving further communication regarding dates to pick up these items from your child’s campus. Please continue to be on the lookout for ongoing updates as well as other information regarding virtual parent meetings, virtual meet the teacher nights, or other virtual meetings.

July 21, 2020 COVID UPDATE
Dear Advantage Academy Families, Parents, Students and Staff:
Please be advised that on Thursday, July 16th, the Dallas County Judge, along with the Dallas County Health Department, updated the COVID-19 disaster order mandating that schools in Dallas County must not re-open for face-to-face or on-campus instruction until after September 7, 2020. Due to this order, Advantage Academy is re-considering our current August 19th start date. We want to ensure we provide the best and safest options for our students, families, and staff to best maintain a healthy, safe and positive learning environment. Please know that these decisions, in considering the continued spread of COVID-19, are difficult for everyone. We are weighing every option available and will notify you immediately once a decision is finalized. Our current plan is to inform everyone of calendar changes by Monday, July 27th.
I would also like to remind everyone of our three options for our students and families this school year. In keeping with our mission, we are excited to offer choice to parents in their child’s education. These include 1) in-school learning 100% of the time; 2) at-home learning 100% of the time; or a 3) combination of at-home and in-school learning. This third choice now includes one of three options:A. Monday and Tuesday in-school,B. Thursday and Friday in-school, orC. Wednesday ONLY in-school
Additionally, please see the attached Reentry Guidelines for the new school year. Our guidelines are based on recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and local health departments, as well as the Texas Education Agency.
Thank you again for understanding these ever changing circumstances and the many decisions that must be made in the best interest of our entire Advantage Academy family.
Warm Regards,Dr. Angela McDonald SuperintendentAdvantage Academy AA School Reentry Protocol - PDF is located at the bottom of this page
