Character and Leadership
Character and Leadership
Commitment to character education and champion development is the heart of Advantage Academy’s mission. Our character program was developed to motivate, reach the heart of a student; educate, causing the students to respond and open their minds for instruction; and activate, encouraging them to present their hands for service. We believe character is an integral component to academic success and developing productive citizens in our community.
The “Seven Pillars:"
We believe as students embrace these strong Pillars, it will establish their footsteps on the road to personal “Success and Victory.”
In addition to our “Seven Pillars,” Advantage Academy has adopted “The Leader In Me” program. “ is a whole-school transformation model that acts like the operating system of a computer—it improves the performance of all other programs. Based on , equips students with the self-confidence and skills they need to thrive in the 21st-century economy.” (http://www.theleaderinme.org/what-is-the-leader-in-me/)
Students will learn and practice 7 Habits in their daily lives at school and at home.
The 7 Habits:
Habit 1 – Be Proactive
Habit 2 – Begin With the End in Mind
Habit 3 – Put First Things First
Habit 4 – Think Win-Win
Habit 5 – Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Habit 6 – Synergize
Habit 7 – Sharpen the Saw
Advantage Academy students will have a “Leadership Notebook.” This notebook contains valuable information to the students and will serve as a portfolio of the students’ leadership. Students will track their attendance, behavior, data, goals, daily objectives, and reading logs. Each student will create a “Personal Mission Statement” and contribute ideas to compose a “Class Mission Statement.”
Each student will have a “Leadership” role in class in which he or she will have to apply for. Advantage Academy encourages all students to become leaders and we will provide them with the tools to become excellent leaders through this program.
Each 9 weeks, each campus will have “Sharpen the Saw Celebrations” that will celebrate student success. Please subscribe to your campus’s monthly newsletter to receive updates.
Once per month, each campus will have a Character and Leadership Assembly that will highlight a “Pillar” and a “Habit.”
It is Advantage Academy’s belief that a student and their parent’s commitment to character education will play an essential part in the success of each student.
During the 2014-15 school year we also introduced the Why Try program for older students.
