Degrees and Certifications:

Texas A&M University -Bachelor of Science in Psychology South College - Bachelor in Elementary Education Texas A&M Commerce - working on graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction

Ms. Amy Courtney

My name is Ms. Courtney and I am teaching 4th grade ELAR and Social Studies this year.  While this is my 1st year of teaching at Advantage Academy, I have taught middle school ELAR and history for the last 10 years.  I am excited to move to 4th grade. I have three grown children: Robby, John, and Sarah.  They are currently attending school in Atlanta.  I live in Plano with my orange cat, Jack. I have an undgraduate degree from Texas A&M in Psychology and an elementary education degree from South College in Knoxville, TN. I am currently attending Texas A&M Commerce to get my graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction. My hobbies include cooking, crafting,  traveling, dancing, and spending time with my friends.

In fourth grade, we  believe in maintaining a happy, positive working environment. We are committed to  "Bring back the Magic!" in education. Our focus will be on preparing students for all of the challenges they will face as they grow and become leaders in the community.  In 4th grade,we will continue to build  personal responsibility academically and socially.  Homework will be a part of the process to reinforce what we are learining in class.

The structure of daily activities will be carefully planned to encourage independence, self confidence, and group cooperation through large group, small group, and one-on-one instruction. Students will also use technology in the classroom and at home to make deeper connections to their learning. I believe that a successful school year comes from great attendance and an open line of communication between parents and teachers. You will be receiving a Remind invitation from both Ms. Lawson and myself shortly after school starts.  This will be important since the Remind app will be the primary way that I communicate with parents about class activities.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to  usif you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to having you in my class this year!

4th Grade Classroom Rules
  • Take Home Folders:

Each student will have a take home folder that contains important information and/or homework.  While I do not assign homework on a regular basis, any work that was not completed in class that day will need to be finished at home and returned the next day.  I will also be including a weekly progress report as well so that you know if there are any concerns or incidents that you need to be aware of.  There is a space on the progress report for parents to initial DAILY.  If you have any notes to send, you may place them in the folder as well.

    Weekly Homework:

Each week, students will have cursive practice sheets that they will need to complete at home.  We do not have much time in class to practice cursive during class, and it is an important skill for 4th graders to learn.  During most weeks, pages will be assigned on Monday and will be due on Friday.
