Our largest Parent University yet!

Our first Parent University of the school year was on September 28, and we had a record number of participants! We had a blast and we are excited to meet even more of you at our next Parent University on October 19 at 6:00 pm.

What is Parent University?

Parent University is an informative and interactive zoom meeting between parents, the Superintendent, academic team, and campus principals. Parent University sessions are held once a month on Tuesdays. They begin at 6:00 pm and usually last around 45 minutes.

What are the goals of Parent University?

Each Parent University will include topics aimed to keep parents informed about what important things are going on or coming up at school, why they are important to student success, and how to prepare and get involved as a parent/family.

The primary goal for Parent University is family involvement. We value our parents’ voice in their child’s education. Parents will get the unique opportunity to speak with staff and other parents in the district regarding important topics and concerns.

What’s new for Parent University?

This year’s Parent University will look much different from previous years - in so many exciting ways! This year, your voice will be an important part of it. With themes, feedback, and door prizes, oh my! The meeting outline below will give you a better idea of what to expect in the first Parent University of the year.

What can I expect?

Our first Parent University session on September 28 will cover school supports offered for learning acceleration (HB 4545), attendance and grades, and Power of Why. Parents will also leave with strategies for how to engage and connect with their children at home through meaningful activities - led by our very own Culture and Engagement Director, Mr. Mark Lukert!

Meeting outline:

  1. District Discussion: Introductions of district staff, presentation of topic
  2. Campus Discussion (breakout rooms): Getting to know each other, campus activity, review and discussion of topic
  3. Wrap Up: Reflection with group, activity presentation by Mr. Lukert

Each Parent University session will have a theme. Although it is not required to participate, attendees who represent the theme have a chance to win a prize!

Our first theme was Advantage Academy school spirit! Participants wore school colors, painted their face, created backdrops, or simply showed spirit by participating in discussion. Congrats to our first three winners who won AA gear!
